The 5th Vietnam-Japan culture and trade exchange program kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on November 29 to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

Former State President Truong Tan Sang  was among those in attendance.

Deputy Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung was quoted by the news agency as highlighting the strong and comprehensive development of Vietnam-Japan cooperation and friendship, stating that Japan is a reliable and important partner of Vietnam.

City authorities are striving to actively promote cooperation with partners and localities in Japan in many fields, he added.

Through the program, Can Tho hopes the close relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and will serve as a bridge connecting the city with more Japanese investors and tourists, he said.

Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Kwaue Junichi, also quoted by the news agency, said the event offers a good chance for people and enterprises in Can Tho to understand more about Japanese culture and perhaps create Vietnam-Japan trade projects in the future.

The four-day event sees 136 booths from over 200 Japanese firms, featuring farm produce, tourism, accommodation services, consumer goods, souvenirs, and education.

It will contribute to promoting Can Tho’s culture and people, and tourism potential, as well as in helping local enterprises set up partnerships with Japanese enterprises.

Within the framework of the program, a forum on business cooperation, a jobs festival, and a tourism promotion workshop will also be held.
