HR Awards Forum hears of challenges from Industry 4.0

Forum participants discuss solutions for HR management strategies during the digital era.

The signature executive seminar, the Vietnam HR Awards Forum 2017, was hosted by the Talentnet Corporation on August 11 in Ho Chi Minh City under the theme “Agile Talent - Disruptive Technology for Growth”, offering high-level views of business strategies as well as updated practical human resources (HR) practices by gathering together more than 400 CEOs, business leaders, and HR experts together with high-caliber speakers from many industries.

The forum was held in association with the Labor & Social Affairs newspaper, the official publication of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), presenting awards determined using the exclusive professional methodology of the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) - the largest non-profit HR organization in Singapore.

Covering real-time case studies from leading regional and local businesses, the forum heard a variety of new ways to follow technology-driven trends in HR management. “Aiming to connect and improve Vietnam’s workforce, the Vietnam HR Awards provide content on trends and an overview and updates on strategies for enterprises,” said Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Labor & Social Affairs newspaper. “This year, we collaborated with businesses to share the latest information on resources planning by applying innovative technology.”

When technology takes over to effectively support organizational operations, it consequently begins replacing people in an organization. As a result, the importance of HR management should be a top priority in any business strategy worldwide. Not only does it help increase efficiency and simplify and automate processes, technology also helps in gathering the necessary data and analyses, from which better decisions can be drawn for business development.

HR management is therefore considered vital for businesses and the technology is a major factor in talent management and leadership development. Considering HR management as the backbone of any enterprise, technology is having a major impact, especially on the two key strategies of talent management and leadership development.

According to guest speakers, the technological era is creating both opportunities and challenges for businesses in the process of enhancing and managing resources. “Technology improvements require an increasing demand for a creative workforce with strategic thinking and analytical acumen to meet the needs of this challenging age,” said Ms. Tieu Yen Trinh, CEO of Talentnet Corporation. “The expectations of employers regarding the necessary skills that potential talent and leadership need are entirely different from those in previous years, together with the pressure from having a workforce management strategy to keep up with the global workforce.”

An official strategic partnership between Talentnet Corporation and the Singapore Management University (SMU Academy) was also unveiled at the forum. Talentnet will be the local host of seminars and workshops for leaders on people management strategies with support from the SMU Academy regarding program content.

“For both Talentnet and Vietnam’s HR community, this milestone provides us with the opportunities to access advanced, practical, and updated knowledge in best HR practices regionally,” Ms. Trinh said. “Hopefully, this collaboration will become a vital cornerstone that can improve Vietnam’s workforce in integrating and keeping pace with regional trends in HR management.”

In the midst of a rising technology “storm”, effective people management strategies will play the role of a kite flying in the breeze. So as to not lose the “kite” from a broken string, the art of “pulling strings” used by HR professionals and business leaders is crucial. To achieve business goals with flying colors, a strategic vision that combines HR management plans and business strategies must be adopted.
