A new $5 million factory from Spectre, a Danish company with many years of experience in manufacturing functional garments for the international outdoor sports industry, was officially opened in northern Nam Dinh province on September 28.

At Hoa Xa Industrial Zone, the factory covers an area of 7,000 sq m with investment in the first phase of $5 million.

“After researching the Chinese and Vietnamese markets, we decided to choose Vietnam as our investment destination because of cheap labor costs and the high number of skilled workers in the textile and garment sector,” Mr. Jesper Klausen, Chairman of Spectre Vietnam, told VET.

He added that Nam Dinh is known for its tradition of dyeing and weaving. “At the same time, the provincial government has created many incentives for investors,” he said, adding that Spectre will expand the factory in the second phase within the next few years with total investment capital of $1 million.

The opening of the new Spectre factory represents the further development of relations between Vietnam and Denmark, according to Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Charlotte Laursen.

“When Danish companies like Spectre set up and expand production here in Vietnam, it not only creates jobs but also brings with it expertise and Danish corporate values,” she said. “In the labor-intensive garment industry, that means corporate social responsibility, high labor standards, and good working conditions.”

The Ambassador stressed that bilateral trade and investment between Vietnam and Denmark are growing strongly, breaking new records every year. This is very much thanks to companies like Spectre investing in Vietnam and bringing products from here to customers around the world, which is to the benefit of both Vietnam and Denmark.

Spectre came to Vietnam in 2010 as a joint venture, with the Minh Tri Company Limited, opening a factory in northern Thai Binh province.

The business in Vietnam has been growing extensively over recent years and this will continue for the next few years. That is why Spectre decided to build a new factory in Nam Dinh, with 100 per cent investment from Spectre A/S in Denmark.

The key products of Spectre are outdoor sports wear for all types of mountain sports and for running, cycling, and hunting. Its product portfolio covers three layers: next to skin garments, insulation, and weather protection, including fleece jackets, soft-shell garments, other technical jackets, and base layers.
