Vietjet Air held a special ceremony to announce a new route linking Phu Quoc Island with Seoul on December 7, at the Korea-Vietnam Business and Investment Forum in Seoul, held during the official visit to South Korea by the Chairwoman of the National Assembly Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The ceremony was attended by Ms. Ngan, the Speaker of South Korea’s National Assembly Mr. Moon Hee Sang, Vietjet Chairwoman Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, and several South Korean and Vietnamese dignitaries.

The Phu Quoc - Seoul route will feature daily return flights from December 22. With a flight time of around five and a half hours per leg, flights depart Phu Quoc at 3.30pm and arrive at Seoul at 10.45pm, returning from Seoul at 1.45am and landing in Phu Quoc at 5.35am (all local times).

Tickets are now on sale at www.vietjetair.com.

With this new service linking Phu Quoc and South Korea, Vietjet has not only created more convenient travel opportunities for local people and tourists in both countries but also further flies the flag for the stunning island, contributing to investment and tourism growth.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Chairwoman of Vietjet, said it was the first airline to offer flights to Phu Quoc International Airport in 2012 and in 2013 and also launched the first flights linking South Korea and Vietnam. “Since then, Vietjet has quickly gained the trust and love of local people, the business community, and tourists travelling between the two countries, while also actively contributing to the promotion of trade and tourism between the two countries and across the region,” she said. “The airline has carried more than 2 million passengers between South Korea and Vietnam, many of whom were first-time flyers. We will continue to offer flying opportunities with routes connecting destinations in the two countries.”

Dubbed “Pearl Island”, Phu Quoc belongs to the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang and is Vietnam’s largest island at about 570 sq km. As a well-known tourist destination, it has attracted high levels of investment in hotels and resorts over recent years.

Vietjet Air operates 60 A320 and A321 aircraft on more than 385 flights daily, carrying more than 65 million passengers to date on 104 routes covering destinations across Vietnam and internationally such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan (China), mainland China, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia.

The airline has plans to expand its flight network across the Asia-Pacific region and has signed contracts to buy new-generation aircraft.

It currently operates seven other routes between South Korea and Vietnam: Seoul - Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City / Hai Phong / Da Nang/ Nha Trang, Hanoi - Busan, and Da Nang - Daegu.
