Bamboo Airways officially opened three new routes from Cat Bi International Airport in northern Hai Phong city to Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho city in the Mekong Delta, and Quy Nhon city in south-central Binh Dinh province on May 10. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was in attendance.

The routes will be operated with a frequency of one round trip per day. Expected flight times are two hours to Ho Chi Minh City, two hours and five minutes to Can Tho, one hour and 35 minutes to Quy Nhon.

These are the first three routes in a plan to build a network connecting Cat Bi with domestic airports such as Da Nang and Phu Quoc and international airports including Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, and Siem Reap in Cambodia.

Mr. Dang Tat Thang, Standing Vice Chairman of Bamboo Airways, expressed his appreciation of the strong policy support of “opening the skies, making tourism become a key economic sector” the government has been steadfastly pursuing for many years.

In opening three new routes to and from Hai Phong, he emphasized that Cat Bi is an important airport with strategic significance in economics, defense, and transport in the city in particular and the entire northern region in general.

Bamboo Airways was operating 17 domestic routes before these three new routes, connecting attractive tourist destinations and receiving a lot of positive feedback from passengers for its five-star quality services.

Combined with the tourism and resort products its owner, the FLC Group, will invest in and develop in Hai Phong, the new routes are expected to help attract more and more visitors to the northern port city and nearby tourist attractions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People’s Committee, said this is a positive result of calling on Bamboo Airways to open more routes to and from Cat Bi International Airport.

In addition to ensuring the safe, efficient, and punctual operation of flights, the People’s Committee also asked Bamboo Airways to continue studying and opening other domestic and international flights to destinations such as Japan and South Korea.

As at April, Bamboo Airways had conducted nearly 4,000 flights in just over two months of operations. It aims to increase its frequency to 100 flights a day this year, serving 5 million passengers.
