Nestlé Vietnam has accompanied mGreen in implementing a “Garbage Classification and Recycling” program in residential buildings and schools at Vinhomes Central Park in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Thanh district.

This is an initiative in a series of activities conducted by Nestlé Vietnam and mGreen to raise awareness and change behavior to contribute to protecting the environment and the planet.

Starting at the end of 2018, the program was conducted at the Vinschool Central Park Primary School and is in the testing phase at the high school as well as in some residential buildings. The program will be evaluated at the end of the year in order to be replicated in residential areas and schools in other locations.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Thoa, Co-founder and CEO of mGreen, the project aims to encourage a habit of sorting garbage and assist in collecting and processing recyclable waste through apps on smartphones. However, the long-term goal of the program is the sustainable development of Vietnamese cities.

“By cooperating with mGreen in specific activities such as encouraging people and students to sort and recycle garbage, we look forward to calling on organizations and individuals in society to join hands in efforts to minimize the use of plastic bags, plastic waste, and disposable plastic products with practical and effective actions,” a representative from Nestlé Vietnam said.

At Vinschool Central Park Primary School, the initiative to sort and recycle garbage through mobile apps was included in the “Service-Learning Module: Community Service Activities” program. It has been supported by the Board of Directors, students, and families as a practical activity to promote environmental protection.

In addition to introducing the sorting and recycling of waste via phone apps, the students also established Vinser & mGreen Environmental Ambassadors, including students and teachers who participate in collecting and classifying and school-family propaganda activities to spread the impact of the program. This activity is also included in monthly review and assessment activities to encourage and contributes to reinforcing their determination and cohesion with their environmental protection commitment.

mGreen is a social enterprise operating with the goal of providing digital technology solutions to manage waste collection and procurement activities for housing management, businesses and government, contributing to solving social and environmental issues.

One of the most effective solutions for managing garbage collection, sorting, and treatment and identified and applied by mGreen is waste classification at the source. To solve this problem, the phone app has been launched in many locations where the project is deployed.

Before coordinating with the Board of Directors and parents of Vinschool Central Park Primary School, mGreen also participated in the “For a Green Vietnam” program, launched and deployed by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth at apartment buildings in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which achieved some encouraging results.
