At a workshop on building the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho into a smart city, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Can Tho City People’s Committee signed a cooperation agreement on the implementation of the “Building Can Tho City to Develop into a Smart Metropolis in 2016-2025” project.

The two sides will strengthen their cooperation and support in promoting the research and application of information technology (IT) in administration, agriculture, tourism, transport, health, education, public security, and urban planning towards a smart urban model.

The People’s Committee will create favorable conditions for VNPT to participate in building content and preparing methods for surveying the actual situation in urban areas.

VNPT will build a comprehensive urban architecture that includes infrastructure and information and communication technology (ICT) for deploying a smart urban area and a solutions framework.

It will also develop standards in creating an open ecosystem, compile a roadmap for practical implementation, implement integrated services and intelligent systems into the city’s architecture, and gradually build an intelligent urban ecosystem in the city.

VNPT will also support the People’s Committee in developing master plans in accordance with each stage of implementation.

It will take the initiative or work together with strategic partners to study and develop solutions to implement or pilot project fields such as agriculture, tourism, transport, health, education, public security, and urban planning to resolve issues facing the city.

VNPT is committed to investing the best resources to meet the development needs of Can Tho, especially in the area of infrastructure, information technology, security, information security, and human resources training in the field of IT. It also commits to introducing the latest technologies and achievements in the field of telecommunications and IT.

VNPT has become a consultant and implementation partner of intelligent solutions for 15 cities and provinces nationwide implementing intelligent urban models.

In October 2017, it successfully implemented Phase 1 of a smart urban area project for Phu Quoc Island. In November, together with the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee it completed and officially announced a scheme for smart urban area construction in the 2017-2020 period and vision to 2025. It has also completed a scheme for smart travel in Hanoi.
