The Department of Tourism in south-central Khanh Hoa province has announced that the total number of tourists visiting Nha Trang in the first three months of 2019 reached nearly 1.6 million, up 11.92 per cent compared to the same period last year, of which international visitors were nearly 900,000 (up 20.3 per cent) and domestic tourists nearly 700,000 (up 2.6 per cent).

Average occupancy in March was more than 45 per cent, of which three to five-star hotels recorded about 55.5 per cent and one to two-star hotels about 30.15 per cent.

Chinese tourists continue to grow and again led the wave of international tourists to Nha Trang. Around 220,000 Chinese tourists come to the beautiful coastal city every year for sightseeing and relaxation. Following the Chinese were Russians, with more than 40,000 visitors to the city each month. Strong growth was also seen in the number of South Koreans and Malaysians in the opening months of this year, with the former reaching nearly 30,000, an increase of some 300 per cent.

The reason for the sharp increase in the number of South Korean and Malaysian visitors is the recent opening of many direct flights from the two countries to Cam Ranh International Airport. Direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Cam Ranh are now at a frequency of one per day. Meanwhile, flights from South Korea to Cam Ranh are conducted by five airlines, including two Vietnamese airlines and three from South Korea.

With a coastline of over 380 km and hundreds of large and small islands in the East Sea, along with a mild climate and warm sunshine all year round, Khanh Hoa has many advantages for tourism development, especially coastal and island tourism.

Its outstanding advantages in natural conditions combined with effective tourism promotions has helped its tourism industry maintain high growth in recent years. In 2018, it welcomed nearly 6.3 million visitors, of which international visitors totaled 2.8 million, an increase of 37 per cent compared to 2017, while tourism revenue was estimated at VND20.5 trillion ($883.2 million). During “Vietnam National Tourism Year 2019”, Khanh Hoa aims to welcome more than 6.8 million tourists, an increase of 7 per cent compared to 2018, of which 3.3 million will be international visitors, up 18 per cent, while tourism revenue will reach VND22.5 trillion ($969.4 million), an increase of about 9 per cent.
