Young people are an important factor in Vietnam’s economy, Mr. Bui Khac Son, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, told the “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend Through Investment in Youth in Africa” seminar held on May 22 in Hanoi.

He added that Vietnam has organizations and activities supporting its youth. “Vietnam is willing to share its experience with Africa on startups as well as young businesspeople exchanges between Vietnam and Africa,” he said.

A representative from the World Bank in Vietnam said that “investing in youth is not only a problem for Africa but also for developing countries.”

The seminar is being held within the framework of celebrations for Africa Day on May 25, reflecting the rich relations between African countries and Vietnam.

It aims to contribute to strengthening academic and cultural cooperation, especially through promoting cooperation initiatives between African embassies and academic and research centers in Vietnam.

Professor Yamina El Kirate from Mohammed V University in Morocco spoke of the status of African youth and suggested what they should do to conduct business.

Other delegates also presented progress achieved as well as initiatives that are being undertaken at the institutional, country and continental level with regard to harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in youth in Africa.

They also highlighted the policy frameworks of African countries for harnessing the demographic dividend for socioeconomic growth and exploring new forms of strategic partnerships between African and Southeast Asian countries to enhance the impact of the demographic dividend on empowering young people in Africa.
