Vietnam pledges stronger cooperation with China's Guangdong province

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and southern Chinese province reached $17 billion in 2016, Deputy FM Le Hoai Trung tells conference in Hanoi on July 19.

Addressing a conference held in Hanoi on July 19 to review cooperation between ministries, sectors, and localities in Vietnam and China’s Guangdong province, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said that bilateral trade between Vietnamese localities the southern Chinese province reached $17 billion in 2016, up 2.9 per cent compared to 2015, according to a report from the Vietnam News Agency.

Mr. Trung also reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of enhancing win-win cooperation with China in general and Guangdong province in particular. 

He called on the two sides to maintain the exchange of all-level visits to promote mutual understanding and trust, make the best use of cooperative mechanisms among agencies, and boost links in economic and trade, investment, transport, agriculture, culture, education, and tourism.

He also asked Guangdong to smooth the way for Vietnamese goods, especially agriculture, forestry, and seafood products, dairy products, and processed fruit to enter the Guangdong market, contributing to more balanced trade between the two countries. 

For his part, Deputy Governor of Guangdong Lin Shao Chun affirmed it is willing to work with Vietnam in implementing cooperative programs signed between the two sides towards stepping up comprehensive strategic cooperation. 

Guangdong also hopes Vietnamese agencies will consider preferential policies for the construction of the An Duong Industrial Park in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
