Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh to hold position of Acting State President until new State President elected by NA.

Following the passing of State President Tran Dai Quang on September 21, Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice President, will hold the authority of the State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam until the National Assembly (NA) elects a new State President, the Standing Committee of the NA announced on September 23, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

According to the State-run news agency, the announcement, signed by NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, was made on the basis of the Constitution, the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly, and the conclusion of the Politburo on the assignment of members of the Party Central Committee to hold the position of Acting State President.

Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, was elected Vice State President in April 2016.
