Thailand the main source of electrical appliance imports

Country overtakes China in first two months, accounting for 54.5% of imports.

Thailand has replaced China as the largest source of electrical appliances imported into Vietnam.

In the first two months of this year, Vietnam imported $238.5 million worth of electrical appliances and components, according to Vietnam Customs, an increase of 5.15 per cent year-on-year.

In February, import turnover for electrical appliances reached $155.3 million, an impressive 85.3 per cent increase compared to January.

Thailand’s import turnover from electrical appliances stood at 54.5 per cent of the total, reaching $120 million, up 3.1 per cent year-on-year.

Imports from China fell 2.49 per cent year-on-year, to $42.5 million. Those from Malaysia fell 8.62 per cent.

Import turnover from Italy was $1.9 million but increased a massive 167.7 per cent year-on-year.

Thailand was also the largest source of fruit imports, with turnover of $82.6 million, accounting for 50 per cent, according to Vietnam Customs, primarily mangos, custard apples, and tamarind.

Imports from Thailand of completely-built-up (CBU) vehicles of less than nine seats in January were roughly half the quantity in 2016 as a whole. Thailand was the largest source of all types of automobiles imported into Vietnam, with 2,605 units.
