The relationship with ASEAN is indispensable for South Korea’s peace and prosperity and Vietnam is at the center of that relationship, South Korea’s Foreign Minister and one of the six co-chairs of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN), Kang Kyung-wha, said at “Korea Night” in Hanoi on September 11.

The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam in cooperation with the Korea Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (KORCHAM) on the occasion of WEF ASEAN in Hanoi from September 11 to 13.

The event was also attended by Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries Huh Chang-soo, high-level Vietnamese Government officials, business leaders from South Korea and ASEAN, and WEF delegates.

It provided a platform for South Korean and ASEAN business leaders and policymakers to share experience in successful economic cooperation between the South Korea and Vietnam and build connections to explore new business opportunities in the context of Industry 4.0.

South Korea’s Foreign Minister also emphasized that Vietnam is South Korea’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, the most popular investment destination in ASEAN, and the country that receives the most number of South Korean tourists in ASEAN. “Behind these impressive achievements is the strong commitment of the governments of Vietnam and South Korea, together with the entrepreneurial spirit of South Korean and Vietnamese entrepreneurs,” she added.

“In the process of ASEAN countries recognizing the opportunities from Industry 4.0, South Korean enterprises, with international-standard technology capabilities in sectors such as IT, smart cities, and factory automation, will be good partners,” Ambassador Kim Do-hyon said.

He added that Korea Night in Hanoi was special because it was the first time it had been held outside of the WEF’s Davos Forum. “This reflects the appreciation of the South Korean Government and enterprises for the increasingly advanced position of Hanoi, an emerging city that is the economic center of Southeast Asia, and the importance of the relationship with Vietnam,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Minister Anh hoped that in the coming time there will be more cooperative activities relating to investment by South Korean enterprises in the fields of industry and high-tech in Vietnam, in particular investment at the Ministry’s Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

The event will also feature a musical performance by South Korean and Vietnamese artists.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on September 11, where he expressed his appreciation of the attendance by a South Korean Government delegation, which will contribute to the success of WEF ASEAN.
