The Hanoi Small and Medium Enterprises Association (Hanoisme) honored 120 enterprises and businesspeople in Hanoi at its “Business Night” event on December 28.

The event is held annually by Hanoisme to recognize enterprises recording major achievements during the year and presents an opportunity for enterprises in the capital to meet and perhaps cooperate together.

Mr. Mac Quoc Anh, Deputy President and General Secretary of Hanoisme, told the gathering that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) contribute greatly to Vietnam’s economic growth. “Many businesspeople have seen significant success in 2017,” he noted. “Recognition from the Party, the State, and the Hanoi People’s Committee is a worthy reward for the socioeconomic contribution made by individuals and businesses.”

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said it will always work with enterprises and entrepreneurs and create the most favorable business conditions possible.

The capital’s economy continues to grow rapidly despite the challenges. Its GDP increased 7.3 per cent in 2017; the highest for seven years. Budget revenue was estimated at VND208 trillion ($9.1 billion), exceeding targets by 1.6 per cent and 16 per cent higher than in 2016. International tourist arrivals stood at 4.95 million, up 23 per cent.

Hanoi also continued to attract investment. Registered foreign direct investment (FDI) reached $3.4 billion, up 9.3 per cent, while social investment was estimated at VND308.5 trillion ($13.5 billion), up 11 per cent. There were 25,160 newly-established enterprises in the city, an increase of 11 per cent.

With over 97 per cent of all enterprises, the SME community has continuously developed and contributed more than 40 per cent of Hanoi’s GDP, according to Mr. Chung

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue awarded Labor Medals, Emulation Flags, or Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister to three groups and one individual.
