President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), Mr. Michael Bahren, has affirmed its commitment to supporting and encouraging European businesses to forge stronger partnerships in Vietnam.

According to a report from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi on March 3, Mr. Bahren said that the release of EuroCham’s White Book on Vietnam’s business and investment environment is an important part of implementing such commitments.

As VET reported on March 2, this 9th edition of the EuroCham Whitebook echoes the European business community’s desire to support the Vietnamese Government in the development of the existing legal framework and a positive business environment in Vietnam, for the benefit of companies, investors, and society.

Mr. Bahren, as quoted by VNA, noted that in the recent survey by the chamber on 950 members regarding Vietnam’s business environment, they expressed optimism about the market and a hope to expand their investment.

He commented that the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, to come into effect in 2018, is one of the reasons behind the optimism.

EuroCham, whose members are leading European firms, pledges to support and hasten the agreement’s ratification process in member countries, he said.

He also thanked the Vietnamese Government for maintaining dialogue with foreign investors. EuroCham has a number of future orientations, including fostering connectivity with Vietnamese localities and encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe to seek partnerships in Vietnam.

For his part, Deputy PM Minh lauded the important role and effective operations of EuroCham in Vietnam over recent years, especially in linking the Vietnamese Government with the European business community as well as in supporting enterprises during their operations in Vietnam.

EuroCham and the EU Delegation to Vietnam have made positive contributions to the growth of economic ties between Vietnam and European countries, he declared.

He also hailed EuroCham’s efforts in publishing the White Book on Vietnam’s business and investment environment and affirmed the government’s determination to build a constructive government in service of the people and businesses, as well as a transparent, effective, and corruption-free government.

He asked EuroCham and the EU Delegation to accompany the Vietnamese Government in turning Vietnam into an attractive market for European investors.
