Visa Vietnam has recently received a corporate social responsibility (CSR) award from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Vietnam for providing innovative digital products and services, addressing financial inclusion and financial literacy, and supporting local causes and communities throughout the year and in moments of crisis. This is the second year in a row Visa has received the honor from AmCham.

Visa is running a nationwide financial literacy program in Vietnam in conjunction with the Central Committee of Vietnam Students Association. In its sixth year, the program has reached millions of students from 87 universities around the country, teaching them about the importance of financial concepts such as budgeting, saving, and spending responsibly.

Each year, the program takes a different approach to engage students with the subject matter of financial literacy. Previous programs have seen students making videos about financial literacy and taking part in financial football tournaments. In 2017, students were asked to put together photo stories that outlined some of the challenges they’d encountered in managing their finances.

“It’s a great honor to receive this award for the second year running,” said Mr. Sean Preston, Visa Country Manager for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. “At Visa, we believe helping individuals to achieve financial independence is one of the most effective ways to achieve strong, sustainable communities, so we’re incredibly happy to be gaining further recognition and exposure for what we consider to be a very important program.”

In addition to running the Practical Money Skills program, Visa has also contributed to charitable organizations in Vietnam such as Operation Smile and Kids First Enterprise, to whom they regularly donate time, talent, and money.

The award recognizes Visa’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and sustainable business practices that create both long-term economic and social value.

AmCham’s Corporate Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program is designed to raise awareness about CSR among AmCham members and the community and provide recognition to firms with best practice CSR programs in Vietnam. To qualify for AmCham’s CSR Recognition Award, a member company’s CSR program must receive high marks in four separate categories: attention to business objectives and societal needs; creation of long-term economic and social gains; communication and sharing of best practices; and program sustainability.
