A new platform resembling Facebook has been officially launched by Vietnamese tech firm the Gapo Technology JSC, after being developed since April.

The Gapo social network features a green background with the interface, layout, and basic functions of a social network, such as messaging, updating status, adding friends, liking and sharing.

It particularly focuses on personalizing the user experience to differentiate itself from other social networks. Users have different options to decorate their page. For example, they can decorate stories and statuses with different wallpapers, colors, music, videos and interactive images to create their own style on their page.

Gapo users also have to confirm their ID for account protection, making online payments, and using other services. It also has automatic keyword filtering and a team to censor bad news based on information reported by users.

Gapo also announced a strategic cooperation agreement with Sony Music Entertainment Vietnam, whose music the social network will be able to use for content creation, on both either web-based and smartphone app versions.

Users can experience the new network by downloading it on Google Play Store or App Store or by going to www.gapo.vn to sign up.

Gapo has initially received an investment pledge of VND500 billion ($21.5 million), which will be used to finance the first phase of the project. It targets having 50 million users by 2021.

The new social network is expected to encourage people to use more than one social network to express themselves and experience more interesting things, according to the developer.
