The 31st SEA Games will be held in late November and early December 2021 and last for about 17 days, while the 11th Para Games are scheduled for the end of December 2021 and will last about eleven days. Some 4,000 people will attend the Para Games, with coaches, athletes, and referees totaling about 2,100 people.

The 31st SEA Games will be held in Hanoi and some nearby localities. The organization process will be reported to the Steering Committee by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for consideration and decision, ensuring the principle of maximum concentration of organization is convenient, economical, and effective.

Funding for the two events will be taken from the State budget, fees for participating delegations, and sponsorships.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has been assigned to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decide the funding for repairing and upgrading a number of works in service of the two sports events as well as funding support for Hoa Binh province to build a terrain bike race track. Meanwhile, Hanoi will build up overall planning to organize related events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the SEA Games and Para Games.

The SEA Games have been held 30 times to date, of which Thailand and Malaysia have hosted it six times, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines four times each, Myanmar three times, and Brunei, Vietnam and Laos once.
