The Toyota Vietnam Foundation (TVF) has donated medical equipment to nine hospitals in the central highlands’ Kon Tum province to support the resolution of healthcare problems in the community, especially in poor mountainous areas.

Kon Tum was selected as beneficiary of the program because of its high poverty rate and infant mortality rate compared with other provinces in the central highlands. At the ceremony marking the donation, representatives of beneficiary hospitals received the equipment and were introduced to its use.

Hospitals receiving the medical equipment include the Kon Tum Provincial Hospital, the Ngoc Hoi Regional Hospital, the Dak Ha District Hospital, the Dak To District Hospital, the Tu Mo Rong District Hospital, the Gak Glei District Hospital, the Sa Thay District Hospital, the Kon Ray District Hospital, and the Kon Plong District Hospital.

“During its 13 years in Vietnam, TVF has continually contributed to society with a philosophy of ‘Bringing better lives to local communities’,” said Ms. Do Thu Hoang, Chairwoman of TVF. “We have been conducting community activities in various fields, such as traffic safety, the environment, education and human resources development, and healthcare. Through this program, we hope our donations will contribute to improving medical treatment and help reduce the infant mortality rate in Kon Tum and neighboring provinces.”

Nurses and doctors at these hospitals were also provided training in pediatric emergency medicine at Kon Tum Provincial Hospital in February, under the guidance of doctors from the Ho Chi Minh City Pediatric Hospital No. 2.

Lives have improved significantly in Vietnam over recent years but there are still many difficulties facing poor provinces, especially in mountainous areas like Kon Tum. Social funds such as TVF are therefore deeply aware of their responsibility to further support local people and improve their quality of life.
