The annual Southern Fruit Festival 2018 kicked off on June 1 at Suoi Tien Park in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9, organized by the city’s Department of Tourism, the Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism JSC, and the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Department of Industry and Trade.

The June 1 to 17 festival aims to introduce the myriad fruit grown in the southern region and honor outstanding individuals and organizations in the field of agriculture.

Tropical fruit such as durian, mango, coconut, dragon fruit and mangosteen are being offered at prices 20-30 per cent less than at local markets and supermarkets.

The highlight of the festival is the “Southern Delicious and Safe Fruit” competition, attracting some 500 orchards from 13 cities and provinces in the south with hundreds of products.

A competition on making shapes from fruit gives visitors the chance to admire beautiful fruit art.

A replica floating fruit market has also been built.

There will also be a parade of “giant fruit” for a fashion show with fruit patterns and a display of unique fruit from the region. Bartenders will also make delicious fresh juices, mocktails and cocktails in a creative style.

An exhibition of “Vietnam’s Vitality” with agricultural tools portrays a lively picture of farming life in Vietnam.

From June 1 to 7, visitors staying at four or five-star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City will have the chance to enjoy the “Vietnamese Fruit Experience” and “Vietnam Fruit Week” programs and enjoy a variety of fruit and juices for free.

The festival welcomed 1.1 million visitors last year.
