Following the resounding success of the first season in January 2018, with the ballet “The Nutcracker”, the Vietnamese Junior Ballet Gala is set for its second season in 2019 with a two-and-half-hour performance of the ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. The performance will take place at 7.30pm on January 13 and 20 at the Hanoi Opera House, with tickets ranging from VND700,000 to VND1.5 million.

The malevolent Fairy Calaboose curses Princess Aurora to 100 years of slumber by a single prick of her finger on her 16th birthday. Doomed by fate, only a Prince’s sweet kiss can break the spell and awaken the sleeping beauty. “Sleeping Beauty” is one of Tchaikovsky’s best ballets and one of the most famous of all time. The three-part performance tells a romantic story of love regardless of time and curses and will be performed by 130 Vietnamese professional child dancers.

“Sleeping Beauty” is staged and re-created by General Director and Choreographer Dam Han Giang, who is known as “Vietnam’s ballet prince” and was also General Director of “The Nutcracker”.

The main junior actors of the ballet are from the Hanoi Kids’ Art Center, while other dancers were selected from dance clubs throughout the country. The kids have rehearsed for the ballet for five months.

The night of ballet will bring a fresh new performance that is different from international versions. All costumes are new designs under ballet standards and the stage will be the most ornately decorated in the country.
