The fifth holding will be in central Da Nang city from May 9 to 12, with the Ironman 70.3 Main Event on May 12. The year is expected to break the record set in 2018, with 1,600 athletes from 56 countries and more than 630 Vietnamese participating.

“Vietnam hosting the competition shows the growth in the number of Vietnamese who care about the sport, as we have witnessed an increase of more than ten-times in the number of Vietnamese participants compared to the 2015 race,” said Ironman Asia Managing Director Geoff Meyer.

Professional athletes will compete for total prize money of $75,000. In addition, the Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship, Vietnam 2019, will sponsor 50 athletes at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2019 in Nice, France.
