The Hanoi Department of Transport has recently licensed 146 new iParking locations.

iParking is the first app that permits searching for and paying for car parking in Vietnam. It includes digital mapping of car parks, management software, and cameras to record vehicle registration plates in parking zones.

All information relating to car parks is available online and car owners are able to find and book parking spots in advance on devices such as smartphones and tablets.

They can download the app from the iTunes Store or Google Play and pay easily through international payment cards, domestic ATM cards, SMS and cash. A notification is sent 15 minutes before the parking time ends, and the time can be extended via the app. The price for cars under nine seats is VND25,000 ($1) per hour and VND150,000 ($6.5) per night and for those over ten seats VND30,000 ($1.3) per hour and VND180,000 ($7.7) per night.

Vietnam is the ninth country to adopt the iParking app via mobile.

The iParking project is being developed and implemented by the Hanoi Car Park Exploitation Company and the CIS Investment JSC under the Hanoi People’s Committee. After the successful pilot from May to July last year on two main streets in the city center, authorities have decided to expand it.

Hanoi has around 1,100 car parks, 200 of which are on roads and employ guards to watch vehicles and collect fees. The plan to use iParking is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve urban traffic management and ensure transparency in parking fee collection.
