A countdown festival combining lights with modern and traditional music will take place on New Year’s Eve in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hundreds of domestic and foreign artists take the stage at the light festival, held on Nguyen Hue pedestrian mall, to provide residents and tourists with a festive atmosphere.

Many roads in Ho Chi Minh City are also decorated with LED lights in different themes expressing the image of the city in the process of development and integration.

The festival has three parts - Present, Traditional and Future - according to the organizing board. Together with the 3D light performance will be a unique combination of the past and present and East and West with the participation of many artists from home and abroad, such as Apl De Ap, Jessica Reynoso, Laurence Tremblay-Vu, Thanh Bui, Phuong Vy, Ngo Hong Quang, and Kieu Anh, with Overseas Vietnamese artist Tuan Le as stage director and Michael Choi as music director.

There will also be a circus, a comedy program, and DJs. International friends will be introduced to the traditional arts of Vietnamese ethnic minority music and instruments as well as “ca tru” (ceremonial singing).

The festival will enlighten stories of the southern hub, which preserves its traditional values through folk arts. It will also bring Vietnamese and foreign artists together and boost the image of the city and Vietnam.

Some 50,000 people are expected to attend.
