Chefs from different countries to cook up a storm in ancient town from April 11 to 14.

The Hoi An International Food Festival 2019 will take place from April 11 to 14 at the An Hoi Sculpture Park in Hoi An ancient town in Vietnam’s central region.

The theme of this year’s festival is the “Cao Lau Challenge”, which aims to introduce traditional dishes of Hoi An to visitors, in particular “cao lau” (pork noodles with soup), with a number of chefs cooking the dishes.

Chefs from Germany, Japan, France, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam will be on hand to cook up a variety of delicious dishes at the event.

Along with cuisine, there will also be a street parade and music performances on traditional instruments from different countries.

The Hoi An International Food Festival 2019 has been held annually since 2016 and is where the ancient town of Hoi An introduces and promotes local cuisine and the area’s unique culture to local and international visitors.

It also provides a venue for residents and visitors to meet international chefs from around the world.

At the second festival, Hoi An was recognized as the capital of Vietnamese cuisine by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies.

Well-known Hoi An dishes include “banh xeo” (fried pancakes with beef and shrimp), “cao lau” (pork noodles with soup), “my Quang” (Quang-style noodles, named after Quang Nam province), and “banh mi Hoi An” (Hoi An-style bread rolls / sandwiches). “Banh mi Hoi An” was listed among the world’s Top 10 sandwiches by Austrian travel website Traveller, joining American cheeseburgers, English bacon butties, and Japanese Katsu Sando.
