The Hoang Sa Exhibition House opened to the public on March 28, on the corner of Hoang Sa and Phan Ba Phien Streets in Son Tra district, central Da Nang city.

On an area of 1,296 sq m, the four-story exhibition house cost some VND40 billion ($1.7 million).

Its central area features the sovereignty column of the Hoang Sa Archipelago, built in 1938 when it was part of French Indochina, and reaches from the first floor to the third floor. Numerous documents and exhibits are on display to help visitors gain an insight into the geographical position and natural conditions of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago and also of Da Nang.

There are also hundreds of photos and artifacts depicting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, taken from old Vietnamese bibliographies issued before and during the feudal Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945). Also on display are maps and historical documents from China and Europe that affirm Vietnam’s legitimate claim over the archipelago, including historical evidence that proves its sovereignty over the islands during the 1954-1974 period and since 1975.

The exhibition house will help educate local residents, especially the younger generation, about patriotism and raise their sense of responsibility in the struggle to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.

Opening hours are from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The Hoang Sa Archipelago is a group of islands, reefs, banks and other maritime features off the coast of Vietnam’s south-central region in the East Sea. Vietnam established Hoang Sa district in 1982 as part of Quang Nam - Da Nang province. When Quang Nam and Da Nang were split in November 1996, the island district came under Da Nang’s control.
