A series of activities showcasing the culture of Hanoi and its thousand years and central Hue city, the former imperial capital of Vietnam and where the Nguyen emperors based their government during their reign between the 17th and 19th century, will be held from November 23 to December 2 in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Getting underway on National Heritage Day, November 23, the event is to preserve heritage values, promote tourism, popularize the image of the Old Quarter in particular and Hanoi and Hue in general, and strengthen cooperation among localities with heritages and organizations and individuals in sharing experience in the preservation and promotion of national intangible cultural heritages and world heritages.

A show featuring “ao dai” (traditional dress) designs and traditional music from Vietnam’s northern and central regions will be staged on the day in front of the Cultural Exchange Center at 50 Dao Duy Tu in the Old Quarter.

The same venue will feature a musical event the next day featuring folk music from Hanoi and the north as well as Hue royal court music and Hue classical music, performed by famous artists.

There will also be a collection of traditional Hue costumes and a collection of instruments used in Hue royal court music.

Visitors can also visit the Kim Ngan Communal House at 42 and 44 Hang Bac Street in the Old Quarter to attend a seminar on ancestor worshipping and traditional handicrafts.

The communal house will also present an exhibition on traditional villages and their worshipping practices and introduce Vietnamese tea and bonsai.
