The historic side of Hanoi has been captured in numerous frames by 3,000 amateur and professional photographers at the Canon Photo Marathon 2016 held at Quan Ngua Stadium in the capital on October 8.

Originally from Singapore and to become an annual photo contest in Vietnam, the Canon Photo Marathon is open to everyone living in Vietnam regardless of their experience or choice of camera and is held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

Taking place over the course of just one day, the Canon Photo Marathon is a thrilling contest for participants as they have the opportunity to challenge their creative talent while snapping wonderful moments of life in Vietnam.

Contestants lined up at Quan Ngua Stadium from 6am

Contestants spread out to all four corners of the capital to find and capture the most beautiful and creative shot that encapsulates the essence of Hanoi.

Mr. Hiroshi Yokota, President and CEO of the Canon Marketing Vietnam Company, emphasized that “we have witnessed and have accompanied the development of Vietnam’s photography community. For us, the Canon Photo Marathon is not just a competition but also an extraordinary playground for every contestant to express their latent talent and exchange and share their ideas with others who have the same passion for photography.”

The key to winning the contest is the photographer’s ability to observe and create the most impressive work under the pressure of time.

Mr. Justin Mott, an American photographer who has joined the contest for many years, said he has seen a growing love for photography at the Marathon.

“I’m really proud to be a part of this growing photography community,” he went on. “I believe this is a rare opportunity for all Vietnamese photography lovers to spread their passion around the community.”

Not only does the Canon Photo Marathon pave a new way for contestants to express their creative talent and exchange their photography experience with others but its awards also provide encouragement. This year’s prizes in the three cities total $40,000, much higher than in previous years.

Special Award: One Photo Clinic tour to Japan worth $5,000; one Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera (body only), and a PIXMA PRO 100 photo printer.

All entry fees will be donated to the “Canon - For Future Generations” fund, with the aim of building new schools for students in remote areas. 2016 marks the eighth year of the charity program supporting thousands of poor students to overcome difficulties through building new classrooms and donating educational equipment.

The Canon Photo Marathon 2016 will be held at the Quan Khu 7 Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on October 15 and at the Tien Son Stadium in Da Nang on October 22.
