The well-known German Film Festival for Children and Youth, Schlingel, is taking place in Vietnam from June 19 to 30 in the four cities of Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, organized by Goethe Instituts in Vietnam with support from German Films and the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung.

The most recent films in German cinema, from family movies and comedy to adventure and fantasy, will be screened at the film festival in German with English and Vietnamese subtitles, including six award-winning films - “Simple”, “How to be Really Bad”, “Supa Modo”, “The Little Witch”, “Matti and Sami and the Three Biggest Mistakes of the Universe”, and “Jim Button and Luke the Locomotive Driver”.

At the opening night of the festival in Hanoi, “Simple” will be screened at 7.45pm on June 21 in cinema 1 at the National Cinema. “Simple” is a touching film about brotherhood, with the story revolving around the journey of a young man named Simple, who is 22 years old but has the mentality of a three-year-old, and his younger brother Ben. The two embark on an exciting journey to Hamburg to look for their father, who they have not met for 15 years, in the hope of stopping Simple being sent to the Care Center for Disadvantaged People.

“How to be Really Bad” is a story about Lilith, the pubescent daughter of the devil. When Lilith is bored with life in hell, her father sends her to Earth to prove to him that she is evil enough for hell.

“Supa Modo” tells the story of a cancer-stricken girl named Jo, who dreams of becoming a super heroine. And miraculously, her dream comes true. It won “Crystal Bear - Special Mention” for “Generation Kplus - Best Feature Film” at the Berlin International Film Festival 2018.

Film directors and others from Germany have been invited to join the German Film Festival Schlingel 2019 as special guests, including Michael Harbauer, Festival Director, Sonja Lore Gabriele Ewers, Producer of the film “How to be Really Bad”, Daniela Elisabeth Tolkien, Director of Casting of the film “The Little Witch”, and Markus Friedrich Goller, Director of “Simple”.
