The FV Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City's District 7 officially opened an international-standard Cardiology Intervention Room (Cathlab) on May 17, equipped with the next generation Philips DSA FD20 machinery costing $1.6 million.

FV is a multidisciplinary hospital that’s striving to become fully-equipped to provide comprehensive care for patients in a single clinical space, from examinations and diagnosis to treatment.

The hospital’s plan to improve the capacity and quality of diagnoses and treatment of cardio and cardiovascular diseases has now been fulfilled with the investment in the 60 sq m Cathlab.

The multi-function Cathlab is operated by a digital subtraction angiography (DSA) machine of the Allura Xper FD20 model manufactured by Philips. The major advance of the Philips DSA FD20 is that it can capture images of cardiac and cerebrovascular blood vessels. The machine is capable of computed tomography as a complete CT machine, helping reduce the effects of X-rays, giving clearer color images, and being able to treat more patients.

The system has the features of synchronization and integration of the latest software, such as Worskspot 3D version 1.4 and Allura Xper 8.2.25. Both provide 3D images of blood vessels, coronary artery flow measurement (FFR), pulmonary vascular resistance, and angiography.

The Cathlab is also equipped with synchronized cardiac electrophysiological machinery and an AP catheterization system using a high-frequency wave radiographer. These are important devices for the treatment of arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation.

The Cathlab is run by a team of experienced trainers, headed by Chief Technical Officer Vo Duy Quy, who has more than ten years of experience operating a Cathlab.

According to Dr. Huynh Ngoc Long, Head of FV Cardiology, the Catheter Board and its doctors use Cathlab to diagnose and treat diseases associated with coronary artery disease, such as angioplasty stent insertion, intercostal atrial interference, ventricular septal defect, mitral valve dilatation, pulmonary valve dilatation, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy by absolute alcohol injection, permanent pacemaker telemedicine, CRT in patients with heart failure, implanted cardioverter defibrillation (ICD), electrophysiological probe in the heart and secondary pathway excision in arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation.

FV Cardiology currently has a team of 12 people, including nine cardiologists and three vascular doctors with 10 to 20 years of experience. The most prominent expert is Dr. Long, who has more than 22 years of experience in cardiovascular and interventional cardiology and has studied cardiology interventions at the University of France. He is known as one of the three leading doctors in cardiology in Vietnam, specializing in the treatment of coronary heart disease, congenital heart disease, and other heart valve diseases.
