A fund supporting projects in education, sustainable agricultural development, music, and culture in Vietnam and Germany has been launched by a Vietnamese living in the German capital of Berlin.

Named after the founder, the Dao Minh Quang Fund will support the promotion of general education, vocational training and higher education in Vietnam and facilitate the transfer of scientific research and technology between Vietnam and Germany.

The Fund is also expected to support initiatives for start-up activities and sustainable development, musical talent, the preservation of German and Vietnamese folk songs, and cultural and musical exchanges between the two countries.

Dr. Dao Minh Quang, who lives in Berlin, came from a poor family in northern Phu Tho province. Thanks to his parents’ investment in his schooling, he had the chance to study in Germany and develop a career there. He wanted to set up a charity fund to help poor students such as himself, exchange research and technology, and preserve and develop folk music in Vietnam and Germany, considering this to be a return on his success as a businessman.

The Dao Minh Quang Fund has started initial activities supporting education projects in Phu Tho and coordinated with the Vietnam National Academy of Music to help musical talent living in difficult circumstances.

The fund marks a new development stage by the Overseas Vietnamese community in Germany, as they integrate further into the host country’s society, and enhances cooperation between the two countries.
