The Danish Film Week 2019 will take place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from October 26 to November 1, giving movie lovers the chance to learn more about the Danish people and country through six films selected and inspired by renowned Danish filmmakers.

The six films to be screened at the film festival are Land of Mine, The Hunt, A Hijacking, Key House Mirror, Across the Waters, and Long Story Short. All have received numerous awards and nominations at prestigious international and Danish film festivals. The Hunt won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, and Land of Mine was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2017 Oscars. Both will screen at the opening ceremonies of The Danish Film Week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on October 26 and 27.

All films have Vietnamese and English subtitles and engaging and varied themes, from ethical tensions between justice and revenge in a man’s struggle for survival against unjust accusations of child sexual abuse, or the struggle of young people to find true love and a perfect relationship.

The best Danish film in 2016 and nominated for the Best Foreign Langue Film at the 2017 Oscars, Land of Mine is a captivating story that explores ethical post-war tensions between justice and vengeance. In 1945, Germany ended its occupation of Denmark, leaving hundreds of thousands of landmines buried along the Danish coastline. The dangerous job of clearing them was given to young German prisoners of war - a punishment that seems at once intuitively fair and obviously cruel. With the deadly job, the boys soon discover that the war is far from over.

These Danish films feature content about Denmark and its people but also contain issues that Vietnamese and international viewers can relate to and contemplate. The Danish Film Week 2019 will be an opportunity to help, through art, foster people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark.

The Danish Film Week is a regular cultural event organized by the Danish Embassy in Vietnam with sponsorship from Carlsberg Vietnam. In Hanoi, free tickets can be picked up at the Danish Embassy, 7th floor, BIDV Tower, 194 Tran Quang Khai Street, or O Kia Ha Noi at 639/39/39 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, or O Kia Ha Noi Art Space at 360 De La Thanh Street.
