Compulsory social insurance for foreign workers takes effect

Compulsory social insurance for foreigners working in Vietnam took effect on December 1 in accordance with Decree No. 143/2018/ND-CP dated October 15, 2018, regulating details on the Law on Social Insurance and the Law on Occupational Safety and Sanitation.

Those subject to the decree include foreigners working in Vietnam with a work permit or practicing certificate or practicing license issued by appropriate agencies and permanent working contracts or labor contracts with a term of one year or more with an employer in Vietnam.

Employers subject to the decree include State agencies, political-social organizations, international organizations in Vietnam, and enterprises, cooperative groups, individuals, business households, and other organizations.

Foreign workers will benefit from compulsory social insurance, including coverage for sickness, maternity, workplace accidents, occupational diseases, retirement, and death.
