A photography exhibition entitled “ASEAN People and Countries” is being held from August 5 to 11 in Hanoi.

Its 230 photos, including 50 about Vietnam, features the beauty of ASEAN countries and their people.

The photos were selected from among 10,127 submissions by 1,248 photographers from the ten ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The ten best from the ten countries were chosen for the “ASEAN-2017 Cup” award by the Organizing Committee.

“The photo exhibition received the highest number of entries in contests held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in recent years,” said Mr. Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. “It’s not only an important activity within celebrations for ASEAN’s 50th anniversary (1967 - 2017) but also a festival for ASEAN photographers to learn and exchange ideas.” He added that the exhibition also introduces the cultural and socioeconomic situation, people, cultural cooperation and exchange activities among ASEAN countries. The exhibition will strengthen the understanding and alignment of the bloc’s members, contributing to the building of a dynamic and prosperous ASEAN community.

Mr. Vu Kim Thoa, representing Vietnam and whose photo “Bac Son Valley” received an “ASEAN-2017 Cup”, said he took the picture in Bac Son Valley in the northern province of Lang Son (about 160 km from Hanoi), among immense ranges of mountains with a natural beauty still unfamiliar among many tourists.

He also said that the photos at the exhibition are diverse and impressive. Each photographer found new angles to depict nature, culture, life and people in ASEAN countries.

Agreeing, Mr. Tan Ee Long from Malaysia, who was also awarded an ASEAN-2017 Cup for his photo “We Love Malaysia” said: “Thanks to the event, us photographers have the chance to brainstorm our creativity and display it while people attending the exhibition can see the uniqueness of their own country and of others.”

After being displayed at the Ly Thai To Statue Square in Dinh Tien Hoang Street, the photo exhibition will then head to Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh and Bac Lieu provinces.
