The AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company Ltd., in cooperation with the Center for Education Development (CED), presented AES-VCM Future Energy Scholarship to outstanding students from Quang Ninh and other northern provinces majoring in electricity at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Electric Power University (EPU) on November 26 in Hanoi.

Twenty scholarships were granted this year with a total value of VND500 million ($21,500).

The scholarship program has been implemented by AES-VCM for three years. Its main focus are investments in education, training, and preparing a high-tech future workforce for Vietnam’s energy sector as the country faces increasing electricity demand.

Selected students will not only receive $600 in financial support each but will also benefit from soft skills and English training, volunteer activities, community support efforts, and site visits to the Mong Duong 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant, invested and operated by AES-VCM Mong Duong Power in Quang Ninh province.

The tailor-made scholarship program is aimed at reducing the burden of tuition fees and other expenses on students and providing them with key career and skills-building activities throughout the year. Specialized training courses organized by CED will provide practical information, strengthen students’ potential and knowledge about the power industry, and help them define their future career opportunities.

“At AES, people are the most valuable asset,” Mr. David Stone, President of AES Vietnam, said at the ceremony. “Our success is based on the talent of AES’s people, who are passionate about their work and consistently strive for excellence. Investment in people and education is a top priority in our corporate social responsibility [CSR] policy. I am happy to see the scholarship program implemented for the third year, with many outstanding students benefiting from it. I hope it will energize them to study even harder and improve their personal development path, giving them the chance to fit in well with the country’s energy future.”

Besides education, the AES-VCM Company has also implemented CSR programs focusing on healthcare, environmental protection, and livelihood improvements in Quang Ninh province, with an accumulated value of nearly VND10 billion ($430,000).
