Sixteen photos taken by Vietnamese and international photographers have won the Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2019.

To promote Vietnamese culture and people as well as accompany the development of domestic photography, the annual photography award, this year entitled “Heritage Journey 2019”, was organized for the seventh time by Vietnam Airlines’ Heritage Magazine. An announcement ceremony and photo exhibition took place on December 21 and 22 at the Ly Thai To Monument in Hanoi.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, 16 photographers received awards from organizers. This year’s competition saw 183 sets of reportage photos (with more than 2,500 single shots) and 474 cover photos. All revolve around the theme of promoting Vietnam’s image, life, and world heritage sites.

In the photo collection category, the special prize went to a set entitled “The ethnic diversity of northern Vietnam” by Alden Anderson, an American living in Vietnam, while “Tau Sai festival of the Dao ethnic community with painted heads” by Thanh The Vinh took first prize.

The photo “New day in Tuyen Lam Lake” by Nguyen Tac Tuan won a special prize in the cover photo category, while “Long Bien Bridge” by Tuan Dao won first prize. These winning photos boast outstanding content and artistic angles and layouts. Each category also had five co-awards for excellent photos.

From March 1 to the end of August, the Organizing Committee received a great number of submissions from photographers. 2019 was the seventh consecutive year Heritage Magazine has held the Heritage Photography Award, “Heritage Journey”. The award has gained in prestige and familiarity within the domestic press photography community.

The exhibition also featured works taken by photographers who participated in two field trips to Myanmar in April and the central highlands in November.
