Northern Quang Ninh province has asked the Amata Vietnam Joint Stock Company, owned by Thailand’s Amata Corporation, to begin construction of the first phase of a high-tech industrial park and township complex.

Provincial leaders met with Amata Vietnam representatives on October 26 to review the project. The project is located in Uong Bi city, Quang Yen town, and Song Khoai commune and covers an area of 6,403 ha. Amata plans to complete the project by 2035.

According to the plan, the high-tech industrial park and township complex will include functional zones, free trade zones, research and development zones, and a trade and services area. The province did not reveal the project’s total investment when contacted by VET and Amata Vietnam could not be reached for comment.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee, said that the province has established a special board to implement the project. It will provide support to the investor in completing procedures to shorten the time before construction begins.

Amata Vietnam will cooperate with the province in submitting a proposal to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to change the location of the approved Phuong Nam High Tech Industrial Park to Song Khoai commune. At a previous meeting with the province the project was valued at $1.5 to $2 billion when the high-tech industrial park was planned to be located in Phuong Nam commune.

The Amata Corporation is an industrial park developer from Thailand and is listed on the country’s stock exchange. It is one of Vietnam’s leading foreign industrial infrastructure developers, with the under-construction Long Thanh High-Tech Industrial Park in southern Dong Nai.

Quang Ninh province is seeking capital for 43 investment projects in a range of sectors during the 2016-2020 period. The Prime Minister previously approved an investment plan for a seaport and industrial park complex in Quang Ninh proposed by three foreign investors, with total capital of VND6.94 trillion ($315.4 million).

In August of this year the province granted investment licenses to six FDI projects with total capital of more than $153.6 million, according to the its portal. In the first eight months of this year it had 820 newly-registered enterprises with capital of $250.45 million, up 18 per cent against the same period last year.

As at August, Quang Ninh had granted investment licenses to 1,619 new projects with total registered capital of $9.795 billion while 770 existing projects had added a total of $4.571 billion to their investment capital.
