VAMC reaches 2017 target

The Vietnam Asset Management Company (VAMC) bought more than VND25.53 trillion ($1.12 billion) worth of non-performing loans (NPLs) from 14 credit institutions between January 1 and September 30. With the purchases, it has met the plan for the whole of 2017, as assigned by the government.


US decision on tra fish imports expected in March

The US may make a final decision in March next year on whether it will continue importing tra fish (pangasius) from Vietnam, said Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), at a seminar on “Vietnamese Standards for Seafood Processing Wastewater” held in Ho Chi Minh City. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) under the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will decide if Vietnam’s food safety control system for tra fish is equivalent to that of the US.


Egg Summit held

The Egg Summit 2017 was held in Hanoi for the first time from October 23-25, gathering together 120 businesses in the poultry farming industry from 30 countries and territories. The second of its kind in the world, the summit was organized by Japan’s ISE Foods Company with support from the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).


Vietnamobile changes distribution model

From September, all of Vietnamobile’s 97 traditional distributors are being replaced by its transaction store model to promote strategic cooperation between the network and distributors and enhance the image of Vietnamobile in the market, giving customers the best care and convenient services.


Zurich Airport Group expresses interest in Vietnam

The Zurich Airport Group from Switzerland has expressed a willingness to cooperate with Vietnam in the management and exploitation of airport facilities, including the Long Thanh International Airport project. Zurich Airport is known for owning and operating the largest airport in Switzerland and is involved in managing many airports in Latin America.


MoF releases draft decrees on tariffs

The Ministry of Finance has finalized and announced drafts of ten decrees on special preferential tariffs to implement free trade agreements with a number of countries, with public opinion being sought before they are submitted to the government for promulgation. The tariffs have a roadmap for application from 2018 to 2022. Many tariff lines will be zero per cent from 2018 under the drafts.


Saigontourist & VNPT sign deal

The Saigon Tourist Company (Saigontourist) has signed a strategic cooperation arrangement with the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT). VNPT will consult and provide telecommunications and information technology solutions, products, and services to Saigontourist, which in turn will provide services to VNPT.
