Vietnam’s leading real estate developer, Vingroup, has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with two of the Top 20 universities in the world - Cornell and Pennsylvania from the US. The partnership confirms the group’s long-term vision and commitment to action and aims to realize its desire to create a breakthrough in the quality of higher education in Vietnam, Vingroup said in a statement.

Within a month of announcing it will enter the higher education sector through Vin University (VinUni) in Hanoi, Vingroup organized the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement and the “Vietnam’s Higher Education in the 21st Century: Global Connection - Shaping Future” conference with Cornell and Pennsylvania (Penn) universities.

VinUni will fully cooperate with Cornell to shape the former’s strategy and brand positioning and build a comprehensive university governance system. With a strong track record in business administration and technical technology, Cornell will support VinUni in evaluating facilities, recruiting staff, designing educational programs, and collaborating in research, as well as testing and qualifying the first Bachelor’s degree in Business - Technology.

Meanwhile, with the leading university hospital in the US, Penn will support VinUni in recruiting and developing the capacities of lecturers and admissions staff and in training and career development for students in Health Sciences. It will work directly with VinUni and the Vinmec medical system to establish a Doctorate program, Bachelor programs, and resident physician programs and to gain accreditation and professional competence towards the highest international standards.

Penn will also collaborate with Vinmec to develop and train clinical trainers, improve quality, and expand its in-depth services, and set up a clinical practice model for VinUni’s healthcare division.

“Cornell is honored to join hands with Vingroup to build a world-class university in Vietnam,” Mr. William W. Huling Jr., Cornell - VinUni Project Director, told the signing ceremony. “We will concentrate all efforts on supporting VinUni to fulfill its mission and achieve its goals. This is also a wish to contribute to Cornell’s global education.”

“In preparing for cooperation, we've been impressed by the professionalism of Vingroup,” said Professor Glen Gaulton, Vice President and Director of the Penn Global Health Center. “Vingroup sets the highest expectations, concentrating its efforts on achieving international quality standards.”

“With the same desire for excellence in education, research and healthcare, Penn fully agrees with Vingroup that the results of these efforts will contribute to making fundamental changes in the quality of medical and nursing education, thus positively affecting the health of Vietnamese people in the short and long term.”

“Cornell and Penn have reached excellent standards,” said Ms. Le Mai Lan, Vingroup’s Vice President. “With support from two of the top universities in the world, along with the methodical investment by Vingroup, we believe that we will attract excellent lecturers and train elite students.”

Construction of VinUni in Hanoi is expected to begin in 2018, with enrolments beginning by 2020.
