Viettel has become the only representative to provide eSim (electronic Sim) support services for Apple in Vietnam, available for iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.

Apple officially supports eSim to bring many benefits to Viettel customers, such as helping iPhone devices operate stably and ensuring compatibility with the eSim parameters of the network operator. When installing Viettel’s eSim service, the phone will no longer display the warning information of the eSim parameter that has not been authenticated by Apple.

To achieve this result, Viettel passed hundreds of standardized tests under Apple’s strict process. It applies an eSim management solution from Thales, a French provider of Sim and smart card solutions for major operators such as Vodafone, Singtel, Orange, Softbank, Verizon, Telefonica, and KT.

Deploying eSim since the beginning of February, Viettel now has nearly 60,000 customers using the service in Vietnam and this is expected to grow by 7,000 to 10,000 customers each month.

Mr. Le Ba Tan, Deputy General Director of Viettel Network, the technology infrastructure deployment unit for eSIM services, said Viettel will expand the scope of application of the service to other technology devices, especially IoT equipment. “Viettel is continuing to upgrade its technical system to quickly support eSim on Apple Watch and many other types of smart watches,” he added. “Listening and calling with smart watches anywhere with mobile waves gives customers more convenience in their daily activities. eSim will soon be standard and deployed by Viettel to the IoT market in 2019-2020.”

The greatest benefit of eSIM is the very small control circuit (about 5 x 5 mm), which can be activated and changed easily by software. Therefore, the manufacturer can design reductions in the size of equipment or integrate Sim into small devices. In the near future, IoT devices in enterprises (M2M IoT) such as electric meters, water meters, and environmental sensors will be integrated with eSIM technology.

Viettel recently held a ceremony in Hanoi marking its 30th anniversary, attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Established in 1989 under the name Sigelco, the group has become one of the 30 largest telecommunications companies in the world and among the 500 most valuable brands globally.

Over the last three decades, from its initial main business line of constructing and installing telecommunications projects, Viettel has developed five new industries: telecoms and information technology services, telecom electronics, defense, network security, and digital services.

It is one of the largest and most efficient State-owned enterprises in Vietnam.
