Vietjet Air announced the introduction of two new routes to Japan on July 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Tokyo (Narita) and Da Nang - Tokyo (Haneda), in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other high-ranking Vietnamese dignitaries during the Prime Minister’s official visit to Japan for the G20 Summit.

The Prime Minister congratulated Vietjet and said it has only been flying for a few years but has developed rapidly, with a good safety record and increasingly high-quality services. “With the expansion of international and domestic flight networks together with a new and modern fleet, Vietjet will become a strong carrier in the region,” he said. “I would like to also congratulate Vietjet on becoming an official member of Keidanren (Japan Federation of Economic Organizations), which is an important milestone not only for Vietjet but also for Vietnamese businesses in general.”

Mr. Nikai Toshihiro, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party and President of the Japanese-Vietnamese Parliamentary Alliance, said tourism plays an important role in developing the relationship between the two countries. “I would like to congratulate Vietjet on launching the two new routes today, which also proves the countries’ close relationship,” he added. “I hope it will continue to contribute and that Japanese aviation agencies will support its development.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, Vice President of Vietjet Air, said the rapid expansion of Vietjet’s flight network to Japan will help the people of the two countries have more options in travel and/or business trips. “We will continue to offer more flying opportunities to local people and international travelers as well as more exciting experiences on flights connecting the two countries,” she added. “Passengers will in turn enjoy travelling on brand new aircraft while being served delicious and hot in-flight meals from our dedicated and friendly cabin crew and enjoying exciting in-flight entertainment.”

Vietjet leaders were also honored to officially receive a membership certificate for the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations (Keidanren) at the ceremony.

Vietjet is the first low-cost carrier in the world to join the biggest comprehensive economic federation in Japan, which comprises around 1,500 members, including leading companies in Japan, national industrial associations, regional economic organizations, and other special members.

Vietjet is currently operating three direct routes between Vietnam and Japan, with flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Osaka and Hanoi to Tokyo (Narita). The new Ho Chi Minh City - Tokyo (Narita) route will operate daily return flights from July 12, while the Da Nang - Tokyo (Haneda) route will operate daily return services from October 26.

With a flight time of approximately five hours and 30 minutes, flights depart Da Nang at 6.10pm and land in Tokyo at 1am, with return flights departing Tokyo at 2.30am and arriving in Da Nang at 6.40am (all local times).
