The 11th Vietnam Exhibition on Machinery and Technology for Manufacturing and Supporting Industries (Vietnam Manufacturing Expo (VME 2019)) and the 8th Vietnam - Japan Supporting Industries Exhibition (SIE 2019) opened on August 14 in Hanoi.

The events were organized by Reed Tradex Ltd., ASEAN’s leading exhibition organizer, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Hanoi, with support from the government via the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The two exhibitions “double” the business opportunities and bolster the local machinery and support industry in Vietnam, with the participation of over 200 leading brands from 20 leading countries and territories in technology, including Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and the US.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said that, in previous years, with the active participation of the government, ministries, departments, branches, localities, and the business community, support industries in Vietnam have achieved remarkable results. “Enterprises have increased in both quantity and quality, improved production capacity, and participated more and more in global value chains,” he noted. “In the early part of this year, during the mid-term review of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative (Phase VII), Vietnam and Japan agreed to deploy three activities to strongly support the development of support industries in Vietnam, including investment in jigs, molds, human resources training, business management, external trade, and market promotion, to increase business sales and reduce production costs.”

Mr. Vu Trong Tai, General Manager of Reed Tradex Vietnam, said Vietnam is considered a market of great potential within ASEAN in the industrial sector. “With shifts in production investment, support from government policy, and advantages in human resources, many multinational corporations have built factories in Vietnam’s industrial zones to expand resources and increase production capacity to meet market demand, which is growing both domestically and internationally,” he added.

As co-organizer, Mr. Hironobu Kitagawa, Chief Representative JETRO Hanoi, said the two expos were organized to assist support industries in Vietnam and increase local procurement and the purchasing ratio of parts and components for Japanese companies in the country.

Ambassador of Japan in Vietnam, H.E. Daisuke Okabe, believes the exhibitions create opportunities for businesses to meet and exchange business information. “Nearly half of the 1,800 enterprise members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in Vietnam operate in support industries,” he said. “Vietnam’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially manufacturers and suppliers to the support industry, play a key role, helping Japanese businesses conduct their business activities in Vietnam.”
