Team Flash, a leading esports organization in Vietnam, has signed a sponsorship deal with new-age airline Vietjet Air. Vietjet will be the official airline partner of Team Flash in domestic and international tournaments as well as in training and fan meetings, contributing in developing Vietnamese talent and the esports industry on the path to international glory.

“We are very proud of our Vietnamese teams and excited about this sponsorship, which we feel is a great step forward both for Team Flash and the overall status of esports in Vietnam,” said Mr. Terence Ting, CEO of Team Flash. “I believe every company should be looking to esports as a genuine opportunity to gain brand affinity with the next generation.”

Originally based in Singapore, Team Flash has invested heavily in Vietnam since February 2018, with particular focus on MOBA title Arena of Valor, currently the most popular esports game in Vietnam. Team Flash’s Vietnam team was recently crowned world champions at the 2019 AOV World Cup (AWC), which was held in Vietnam.

The team won $200,000 in prize money and Vietnam’s first international title in esports. The same team also represented Vietnam at the inaugural Asian Games showcase in Jakarta last year.

“Aiming at becoming a consumer airline, Vietjet has gained popularity in Vietnam and internationally for always pioneering consumer innovation on e-commerce platforms,” said Mr. Jay L Lingeswara, Deputy Commercial Director of Vietjet. “We are delighted to partner with a high-potential startup in Team Flash and create favorable conditions for their players to showcase the talents of Asian youth in international competitions.”

As one of the region’s top esports organizations, Team Flash has won more than $620,000 in prize money since its inception two years ago - one of the highest prize totals for an esports organization based in Southeast Asia.

Team Flash currently employs more than 30 professional esports athletes and content creators in various game titles, including Arena of Valor (AOV), League of Legends (LOL), FIFA Online, and PUBG Mobile across Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia.

In August, Team Flash secured $1.5 million in seed funding, aimed at further regional expansion and securing its market leadership in Vietnam. The funding will enable Team Flash to continue recruiting the best esports players and content creators across the region, focus on bringing in brand sponsorships and media partners, and launch a dedicated merchandising arm later this year.

In Vietnam, Team Flash focuses on League of Legends and Arena of Valor. Both titles are in the MOBA genre, but LOL is primarily played on PC, while AOV is a mobile exclusive. The lower costs and convenience of the mobile platform dramatically expand VOA’s potential player base in the country.
