The Hai Phong City People’s Committee, the Rent-A-Port Group, and its affiliates, Infra Asia Investment, and the Rent-A-Port Green Energy Company from Belgium, have signed a memorandum of understanding on green development projects in northern Hai Phong city.

The parties will cooperate to research and develop a typical industrial park for green development in the city, and establish facilities to produce and supply wind energy, solar energy and energy from waste, as well as clean water. Research is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

In the immediate future, the parties will carry out a project to produce electricity from waste at the Dinh Vu and Trang Cat rubbish dumps and clean water from seawater, using wind energy, on Cat Hai Island. Initial capacity is about 400 cu m a day, which will meet the water demand of about 4,000 residents on the island.

The parties will request the Belgian Government provide $4.7 million in ODA for project implementation.

Rent-A-Port is an engineering and investment company specializing in the development of marine infrastructure and industrial zones worldwide.

It services range from consultancy to full project management for investments in marine-related projects and industrial zones. It is also active in the renewable energy sector via its sister company Rent-A-Port Energy.

The northern city of Hai Phong has attracted approximately VND50.6 trillion ($2.22 billion) in investment to date, including VND40.3 trillion ($1.77 billion) in foreign direct investment, into its industrial zones and economic zones.

The city is committed to providing the best investment environment possible to investors by improving its infrastructure and adopting clearer administrative procedures, city leaders told the Conference on Investment Promotion in Hai Phong held last September.

In order to improve administrative procedures, the People’s Committee announced a decision at the conference to set up an investment, trade and service promotion center, which will serve as a bridge connecting local authorities and enterprises with a one-door policy.

The center will create a convenient and transparent investment climate for investors, promote administrative reform, and deal with difficulties facing enterprises.
