Reggio Children, an Italian public-private company, announced on October 16 a partnership in the field of early childhood education with Vietnamese education group Embassy Education.

This marks a significant milestone for Embassy Education in partnering with Reggio Children and the launch of Little Em’s Pre-School - a member of Embassy Education - which becomes the first official Reggio Emilia Approach© school in the country.

Reggio Emilia Approach© is a world-renowned early-childhood educational approach promoted by Reggio Children that has inspired many early-childhood educators across the globe.

Headquartered at the Loris Malaguzzi International Center in Reggio Emilia, Italy, its network spans multiple countries in Europe, including the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands, the US and Latin America, and parts of Asia and Oceania, including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and India. In Vietnam, there are a number of prominent preschools that have been inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach© or Reggio Inspired pedagogy.

Embassy Education, recognizing the extensive and genuine learning impact that young children can achieve through the Reggio Emilia Approach©, connected with Reggio Children through the offices of the Italian Consulate in 2017.

President of Reggio Children, Dr. Claudia Giudici, first visited Embassy Education in 2018, with her most recent visit being as one of the keynote speakers at Embassy Education’s Seed & Spark Summit in October last year. Those visits and her recognition of the spirit and passion that Embassy Education brings through its service provider, Global Embassy, led to an alignment of values between the two.

This agreement allows Embassy Education to contextualize the Reggio Emilia Approach© in the local culture, to ensure children retain their Vietnamese sense of identity while building upon the robust framework of Reggio pedagogy.

Embassy Education and Reggio Emilia see this as the first step in creating a synthesis that is best summed up as 180 East and 180 West; a bringing together of world-renowned pedagogy for young children that meet the needs of both Vietnamese parents and educators.

Dr. Giudici said she was very proud that many preschools in Vietnam were inspired by the Reggio Emilia pedagogy and that this agreement with Embassy Education, with its strong creative education focus, will deeply the impact of preschool learning in Vietnam.

The agreement sees the launch and opening of a center in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 3 offering teacher professional development initiatives, share aspects of the Reggio Emilia philosophies via the Ateliers, and provide support and advice to schools and parents from an authentic and genuine local Reggio context.

The Italian Consul-General, Mr. Dante Brandi, said he was pleased to act as the initial conduit and is gratified to see the agreement coming to fruition and giving Vietnam the opportunities that are available in Italy. “Through the Reggio Children’s center there now exists an official and exclusive center for the people of Vietnam to adopt, learn and develop the features of Reggio Emilia in early childhood education,” he said.

“I believe that 100 per cent of Vietnam’s future lies in its next generations - its children,” said Mr. Thanh Bui, founder and CEO of Embassy Education. “And to best prepare them for tomorrow, today we must begin their life-long learning journey at the earliest stages of their lives. Embassy Education is honored and humbled to be the official representative of Reggio Children in Vietnam.”
