Japanese mobile messaging app LINE Vietnam recently hosted its very first engineering meetup at its newly set up Tech Hub in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the first meetup on September 12, over 50 engineers joined the “September Rendezvous with LINE Vietnam - Java the Day”, in a setting where they could leave behind the load of their daily tasks.

Two speakers, Mr. Tien Nguyen and Mr. Minh Tran, were excited to share their experience in “Evolving Java and the JVM: Mobile, Micro and Modular” and “Java 9 - Modularity” with attendees and then answered questions.

“LINE Vietnam has a serious plan to build an informative playground for the engineering community and we are all motivated to continuously organize other technical-related events soon after this,” said Mr. Jeon Je Eon, Lead of LINE Vietnam's Development Center.

The idea for the series of meetups comes from LINE’s global mission of “Closing the Distance”, in which the company’s expectation is to bring people, information and services closer together. Mr. Minwoo Park, LINE Plus Corp Tech Evangelist, told attendees and the media that there should always be a gateway for people to connect with each other, no matter whether they are online or offline.

“We already created the LINE messaging app for everyone to strengthen their relationships via a social mobile platform,” he said. “We are now doing the same when bringing engineering meetups to Vietnam to offer tech geeks the opportunity to engage with each other and enrich and share their knowledge with experts.”
