At the Announcement Ceremony of Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam 2017 held last December in Hanoi, HEINEKEN Vietnam was proud to be honored as the most sustainable manufacturing company in the country.

Participants were Vice State President Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Dr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and government officials from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and other agencies, as well as 600 representatives from national and international organizations and businesses.

The Announcement Ceremony is part of the Programme on Benchmarking and Ranking Sustainable Companies in Vietnam - a prestigious annual initiative commissioned by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), under the direction of VCCI.

This is the second year the VBCSD has organized the program and it received over 500 applications from the business community. Although the number of applicants increased sharply, HEINEKEN Vietnam improved on its previous ranking to go from the third last year to become the most sustainable manufacturing company in 2017.

At the ceremony, Mr. Tran Minh Triet, Deputy Managing Director of HEINEKEN Vietnam, said that the company is honored to receive this prestigious recognition for its continued effort and commitment to “brewing a better Vietnam” throughout its 26-year journey. “This is such a remarkable source of inspiration for all of us at HEINEKEN Vietnam,” he noted. “We look forward to continued support and direction from the government for  sustainability-conscious organizations so that we can further integrate sustainability in our  business agenda and contribute even more to Vietnam’s sustainable development.”

HEINENKEN Vietnam was selected as the most sustainable manufacturing company on the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) ranking thanks to its significant achievements in 2017, with it making a significant economic contribution to Vietnam, of approximately 0.75 per cent of GDP, as well as focusing on green growth by adopting carbon-neutral initiatives such as using biomass to create thermal energy for brewing.

The company also prioritises domestic suppliers wherever possible and by doing so it has created nearly 200,000 jobs for the local people. HEINEKEN Vietnam is strongly committed to promoting responsible drinking in Vietnam by implementing campaigns such as the Responsible Drinking Campaign at Tiger Wall events.

HEINEKEN Vietnam Brewery is also one of the most long-standing, stable, and successful joint ventures in Vietnam, lasting 26 years in partnership with the Satra Group.

At the 2017 Vietnam Corporate Sustainability Forum last October, HEINEKEN Vietnam was also recognized by representatives from the government and the business community as an excellent example of applying sustainable business practices to its operations.

As a corporate leader in sustainability, HEINEKEN Vietnam shared with the forum its success story on how driving a sustainability agenda has helped its business and the community grow together. Key to this is creating an inclusive value chain such as circular economy ideas and transparency and integrity in business and sustainability reporting.
