The Gulf Group, one of the leading energy producers in Thailand, last week officially inaugurated operations at the TTC No. 01 and TTC No. 02 solar power plants at the Thanh Thanh Cong Industrial Zone in An Hoa commune, Trang Bang district, in southern Tay Ninh province.

TTC No. 01 was built on an area of 69.5 ha, of which the area for installing solar PV panels is 42.53 ha with a capacity of 68.8 MW. Ground leveling began in May last year, with total investment standing at approximately $65 million. Due to effective support from management, staff, and contractors, the project was put into operation in early March after just ten months of construction.

It provides the national electricity grid with about 106 million kWh per year, which would power some 87,000 households, and reduces CO2 emissions by about 85.45 tons a year. A total of 208,500 panels have been installed, each with a capacity of 330 W.

TTC No. 02 is on an area of 50.06 ha, of which the area for installing PV panels is 39.22 ha with a capacity of 50 MWp. The project officially began ground leveling on August 10, 2018, with total investment at approximately $50 million. After just eight months, the project was put into commercial operations two months ago.

TTC No. 2 provides the national electricity grid with output of about 78 million kWh a year, enough to power some 64,000 households, and cuts CO2 emissions by 62.29 tons annually. A total of 151,500 panels have been installed, each with a capacity of 330 W.

In order to achieve its targets, the Gulf Group selected competent and highly-experienced contractors in the field of renewable energy. JGC Vietnam was selected as the EPC contractor and Artelia Vietnam and Thanh Thanh Cong Investment as construction supervision consultants. TTC No. 1 has an additional contractor for the construction of a 110-kV transmission line - Hoang Viet Hung Ltd.

Mr. Sarath Ratanavadi - Director and CEO of Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited, affirms that Gulf always focuses on developing synchronous forms of energy, especially renewable and environment-friendly ones (Photo source: TTC)

“Gulf expects to contribute to and engage in environmental protection, climate change, and energy conservation, and build green energy sources, especially in Vietnam,” said Mr. Sarath Ratanavadi, CEO of the Gulf Energy Development Public Co. “We’d like to maintain continuous growth in Vietnam, because the country is one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia and its demand for energy is forecast to increase at a high rate.”

“We always focus on developing synchronous forms of energy, especially renewable and environmentally-friendly energy sources, thereby improving the value chain of production and business activities and strengthening national energy security. The official inauguration of these two projects will contribute to minimizing negative impacts to the fullest extent possible.”

He added that the Gulf Group is pleased to be a joint venture partner in deploying the two solar power plants. “As a co-investor, we undertake technical site monitoring and solar project management,” he said. “There are Gulf staff rotating from our headquarters in Thailand to work full-time in Vietnam, in order to maintain constant workflows and ensure quality control in the construction and operations phases.”

“At the same time, based on our practical experience from other successful projects, we are committed to using the best resources to operate the two plants safely and effectively, which is also a premise for long-term cooperation. Our success today is driven by our people and commitment to achieving results by using state-of-the art technology to maximize power efficiency, adopting responsible operating standards, and securing new opportunities for profitable growth. We also plan to grow our earnings across the value chain and make targeted investments to lead the industry in returns.”

In addition to the two solar projects with TTC, Gulf’s other overseas projects include three under construction and development - one captive power plant in Oman and one solar and one off-shore wind project in Vietnam.

Gulf is also planning to develop another wind power project (of 310 MW) and another solar power project (of 30 MW) with the TTC Group in the Mekong Delta’s Ben Tre province.
