Concordia International School Hanoi will begin construction of Phase 2 of its new high school at Van Tri Golf Course on March 1.

The new five-story building with approximately 8,300 sq m of space will enhance and develop the school’s overall program and support Concordia’s long-term growth and commitment to providing a world-class elite high school education in Hanoi, according to Mr. Steve Winkelman, Head of the School.

The first floor is designed for and dedicated to fine arts and student services. Arts studios with supporting space will allow students to design and develop their passion for fine arts in painting, sculpting, drawing and creating. A black box theater, music classrooms for both choral and instrumental groups, and individual and small group practice facilities will enhance the school’s performance arts program.

The first floor also features a large coffee house atmosphere with space for students to work with faculty and staff. There will also be a counseling center and admissions office.

The second floor will have a second gymnasium, locker rooms, a fitness center, and a dance studio.

The third and fourth floors will have classrooms and lab spaces, which will promote the school’s applied learning programs. The fourth floor will also have an outdoor garden area.

The fifth floor will be finished at a later date based upon the specific needs of the school.

The entire facility has been designed to promote energy efficiency and provide students with opportunities to learn how buildings work. “We aim to be LEED silver compliant, making it one of Vietnam’s few green buildings,” Mr. Winkelman said.

Most importantly, the school is working closely with both the construction team and Van Tri Golf Course management to keep the existing school area free of dust and debris by implementing proper dust barriers and other environmentally-appropriate methods to reduce the impact on the surrounding land and air.

The school plans to start using the space at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.

Concordia opened in Hanoi in August 2011, bringing over 150 years of educational experience to Hanoi. It is part of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) in the US. LCMS has been actively developing schools in the US since the 1860s and throughout Asia for the past 40 years. Concordia Hanoi is modeled after its two sister schools: Hong Kong International School and Concordia International School - Shanghai, China.
