Amazon Global Selling (AGS) recently connected and engaged with Vietnamese sellers through its first “Cross-border E-commerce Summit” held in Ho Chi Minh City, to help provide knowledge and grow sellers’ networks and experience base to stay ahead in cross-border business development.

The summit also marked a milestone for Amazon in Vietnam, with an MoU being signed with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

AGS shared its 2020 strategies in Vietnam at the summit and also announced cooperative arrangements with the T&T Group (with support from SHB Bank) to better assist Vietnamese enterprises to explore online exports in 2020. The summit gathered around 2,000 attendees from around the country.

“Vietnam is a country with great potential for cross-border e-commerce development,” said Mr. Bernard Tay, Head of Amazon Global Selling Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. “It has advantages in manufacturing, as well as much young talent and a strong online community.”

“AGS is a trusted and thriving channel to connect local sellers. The summit is part of our efforts to help Vietnamese businesses go further in international marketplaces. With an AGS team in Vietnam, we provide localized support to domestic selling partners throughout their journey of selling on Amazon.”

2020 strategic priorities

In the year to come, AGS will further enhance awareness of online exports and expand to more regions. It will also stage more offline educational workshops and work more closely with partners to drive awareness.

It will also provide more services and tools. Amazon Advertising was introduced at the summit to Vietnam sellers, which can help them find, attract, and engage millions of Amazon customers at every stage of their journey. The self-service solutions range from Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display (beta), and Stores.

With the launch of Amazon Singapore, there will be one more international marketplace available to Vietnam seller in addition to Amazon.com. This is part of Amazon’s continued efforts to facilitate Vietnamese sellers with more online export opportunities. It also aims to strengthen local partner networks, both through enhancing existing cooperation and developing new ones.

Another highlight of the summit was the “One Village One Product” exhibition, which demonstrated high-quality “Made in Vietnam” products such as coffee, tea, textiles, handicrafts, healthcare services, beauty products, and traditional cultural products such as “ao dai” (the national outfit), conical hats, and ethnic minority musical instruments. Among these, textiles, leather, shoes, handicrafts, and consumer products are very popular in Amazon marketplaces.

Collaborative efforts

The MoU between MoIT and Amazon aims to help domestic sellers promote their businesses and export goods to international marketplaces. Vietrade and AGS will collaborate on the following programs: exporting via e-commerce; building Vietnamese brands on e-commerce with Amazon; developing Vietnam’s human resources in e-commerce; and modelling store and policy collaboration.

The summit also marked the beginning of deeper cooperation between AGS and the T&T Group, with support from SHB Bank. By sharing knowledge and fostering talent, business networks, and digital solutions, the three sides will work with the government to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in expanding their businesses, thereby promoting the growth of Vietnam’s exports.
